Day 26

Spent:$2         Spent so far: $97.04          Days remaining:5

So I stopped off on the way home from work to pick up the air tickets to Japan for me and Master and somehow came home with tickets, a dress, a pair of tights and a salmon carcass. See, this is why I don’t go shopping (usually), I get easily lured into buying things.

But the $2 carcass was a steal! I could not walk away and leave that huge thing (about 1.5kg)  there when it was so obviously screaming, ‘Buy me!!!’ Fillets of salmon cut from the carcass were lined up next to it for $27.99/kilo, which is a bit cheaper than you’d normally see it in the supermarket for, but still, that is a ridiculous price. I miss my 100yen salmon steaks that I used to buy in Tokyo…

Fortunately (unfortunately), Aussies have never figured out that the tastiest flesh is in the head and cheeks and large amounts of meat can be scraped off the bones, so the fishmongers tend to almost give them away because no-one wants them. I’m going to butterfly the head and bake it in the oven and might either mix up the remaining flesh with potatoes and miso with butter or use it with some pasta or risotto.

On my walk home I was lusting after pizza. In fact, I’ve been lusting after pizza since Master made one the other night, so I thought, ‘What the hell, I’ll live dangerously!’ I made a divine pizza from the last base in the freezer, some left-over pasta sauce, cheese, anchovies and sliced black olives. Mmmmm. I couldn’t wait to eat it and successfully managed to burn a layer of skin off from the roof of my mouth. I hate it when I do that…

Brekky – Porridge for me. Cereal for Master.

Lunch – Tuna salad for me. Master had a hamburger that he described as ‘soggy’. Ewwww…

Dinner – PIZZA!!!! (3 slices for dinner + 1 slice for lunch tomorrow). Master had turkey & cauliflower with cheese at the motel.
