Getting over it

I was bored on Saturday night. There was nothing to watch on tv, I couldn’t play WoW (since those guys at Blizz stuffed everything up with the new patch and now every time I try to play, the game crashes) and I wasn’t in the mood for studying.

So I went onto Youtube to see if there were any new Eddie Izzard videos. I love Eddie. I love the fact that he doesn’t need to say ‘fuck’ every second word to be funny (like every other comedian these days).

But I digress… along with the classic Eddie videos like “Cake & Death” and “Death Star Canteen” on Youtube I also saw several videos for ‘Marathon Man’ and I was intrigued.  Apparently, earlier this year, he decided to run around the UK – doing 43 marathons in 51 days to be exact – to raise money for sport relief (and because I think he is a bit anal…)

Amazingly, he’s not a runner. He had 5 weeks from having the idea, to when he left for his first run.

But he did it.

His first marathon took 12hrs.

By the end he was taking 4hrs.

That’s pretty damn impressive for a 47-year-old transvestite with no running experience.

So, I’ve decided I need to lift my game and stop moping around the place about my lack of motivation and how drained I feel after a run.

This morning I got up and ran the 11km to the station instead of taking the bus. I have to say I felt REALLY self-conscious being in my sweaty running gear on the train surrounded by people in suits heading off to work.

Last week I’d left a change of clothes, shoes, breakfast and assorted toiletries at work so I could change and eat when I got here. It would be great if there were showers too, but I guess that is asking a bit much.  A heavy spray of deodorant has to keep the smellies at bay.

It was tough running on fumes and before my body was completely awake, but my exercise for the day is over and done with and it’s much nicer than being on a bus filled with kids.

When I think about running 4 times that distance nearly everyday for 7 weeks, it makes me want to cry though. Kudos to you Eddie.

  1. You are doing really well, good on you.

That other man is crazy, just five weeks and then the first run lasting 12 hours. *faints*

  2. I LOVE eddie ❤

did you know he does *barefoot* style running now? he wears those Vibram Five FInger shoes.

good on you for pushing through! inspirational is what you are, girl!

    1. I love eddie too 🙂

He has flat feet apparently, so I think that’s why he went for the barefoot thing. Also when he was doing the marathons, he had ridiculous blisters and bit falling off his feet.

With my recent blisters, I can understand why he made the change.
