October so far…

I’ve started recording my runs on mapmywalk.com since I discovered their handy calendar and training log.

October so far is looking like this:

I’ve done 75.81km so far and there are another 3-4 runs left to do. I’m expecting to finish the month having done about 110km (68 miles)

On mapmywalk they also have lots of challenges that you can sign up for. The 100miles in 30 days has kind of grabbed my attention and I’d like to do it at some stage….as long as I don’t convert it back to km, it’s not too scary (160km eeeep!)

As for Freeway to 10k, I finished week 8 this morning on my way to the station a.k.a Sweat Fest Commuting™ so there are only two more weeks (6 runs) until graduation!

I finished day 3 about 5 mins faster than day 2 so I was happy with that. I think the fact that it was cooler this morning helped a lot. It was nipple erecting cool when I got off the train in my sweaty running gear, so I definitely felt it.

In keeping with my plan of ‘getting over it’ that I wrote about last time, I sucked up my runs this week and spent a lot of time encouraging myself to dig deep and ‘just run!’ It seemed to work better than thinking about how everything was hurting…lol.

  1. You are doing well, wish I could run but I’m a gumby.
Swimming however I love and am good at.

Hmmmmm I wonder if there is a swimming thingy like what you’ve got for the running.

    1. When I’m swimming I always find the boredom factor to be a huge issue. It’s okay if I’m snorkelling and there is something to see, but just doing laps for an hour and I’m O.V.E.R.I.T. It’s a pity because I like swimming too. I might need to cough up the money for an underwater mp3 player to keep myself amused.

As for the swimming thingy…well, I guess you could always start your own! As you’ve probably noticed I’ve got a thing for making up my own challenges and I really get nothing out of them except self gratification. Sound like something you could do?

  2. Yeah I do have some goals, one is to compete in the Masters Games in 2012. That obviously a more long term goal. The first is to get fit, then increase my speed. I’ve not really thought much further than that at this stage. lol

I’m pretty brain dead so swimming lap after lap is fine with me and I get a huge high from it for hours after.

Hmmmmm I could make up my own, although I’m very challenged in those things. I have to do hard copies of stuff with pen and ruler. LOL D’OH

    1. I always get brain dead *after* swimming..lol.

If you like the goal idea, I’d be tempted to set myself a distance or a certain amount of laps in a period of time to complete.

I’d also think about “mapping a swim” like “I’m going to swim from home to the CBD in 30days!” or something like that and have an on-going thing until I “reached’ my destination.

In Japan they have pedometers that do that. You can buy different ones that take you on a “walk around Japan” or that do the “181 shrine route” etc. It’s very satisfying to complete the route :0

Now I sound really geeky and anal…
